I caught Lily Allen performing on Saturday Night Live a couple weeks ago. I had heard some buzz about her, bud hadn’t actually heard any of her music until that night. I wasn’t expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed what I heard. It was incredibly catchy, and different from most
pop1 that’s around today. It’s certainly a lot better than the
dumb-as-bricks-simpler-than-a-nursery-rhyme pile of crap written for and by simpletons
2 that we hear more and more of these days.
Since I liked both of the songs she performed on SNL, I thought my chances were good as far as liking the entire CD... So, I picked up her CD, listened to it, and I
do like it! Liking this sort of thing, and going ahead and actually buying a
pop CD is a little out of character for me. I have a lot of guilty pleasures when it comes to today’s
pop, but I wouldn’t actually buy most of it. Lily Allen has a unique
3 sound about her, and I dig it.
The two songs she performed on SNL that hooked me in were
Smile and
LDN. Have a listen, and if you like, click the image in this post, and buy it!
1 I’m not talkin’ about soda, you wacky midwesterners
2 I’m talkin’ about you Gwen Stefani, Fergie, and co.
3 Ok, it’s unique to
me. It’s possible she isn’t the first to release this style of music, but it’s the first I’ve heard
