Damn the latest iPod commercial! Ever since I first saw it, I couldn’t get that song outta my head. I eventually figured out that the song is called 1234 by an artist named Feist. I really dig this song, and every time I see the commercial, it’s in my head for hours. I also dig the video for the song. It’s kinda unique and fun to watch. Check it out below...

The interesting thing here is that I unknowingly knew a song by Feist already. A little while ago, a friend of mine told me to listen to a song called Gatekeeper. I listened to it, and aside from thinking she was saying Gaykeeper, I thought it was alright. Fast-forward to a few days ago, I was chatting with this same friend about how I love this 1234 song, and he goes on to tell me that it’s the same artist that sang Gatekeeper. I’m all like, no way dude! Oh-mah-gawd!

Mulva and Dolores experienced their first concert last night. We went to see Genesis at the TD Banknorth Garden here in Boston. I’ve always loved Genesis, going all the way back to their inception with Peter Gabriel. Their style has changed vastly over the years, but they covered the old and the new last night with absolutely amazing musicanship. Those guys are so much older now, and to see them play for a little over two and a half hours with such energy was amazing!

I saw Phil Collins in concert many years ago, and he was phenomenal. That man has so much energy during his live show, it literally tires you out just watching him. He’s a fantastic showman, and last night he showed that he still has it in him. Phil’s also an amazing drummer, and while I didn’t get to see him drum too much during his solo show years ago, last night he drummed a lot! It was awesome to see him drum alongside their touring drummer during songs as well as during what amounted to be one of the greatest drum solos I’ve ever seen¹.

Update: Couple things, Phil told us that their very first concert in the US, was in Boston at Brandeis University. I thought that was interesting and cool. Also, here’s the setlist from the show:

I heard this song on the Opie and Anthony Show this morning, and now I bring it to you. I defy you to listen to it and get it outta your head. It can’t be done. This song will haunt you forever. I guarantee you’ll find yourself either humming it, or singing the lyrics.

I caught Lily Allen performing on Saturday Night Live a couple weeks ago. I had heard some buzz about her, bud hadn’t actually heard any of her music until that night. I wasn’t expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed what I heard. It was incredibly catchy, and different from most pop¹ that’s around today. It’s certainly a lot better than the dumb-as-bricks-simpler-than-a-nursery-rhyme pile of crap written for and by simpletons² that we hear more and more of these days.

Since I liked both of the songs she performed on SNL, I thought my chances were good as far as liking the entire CD... So, I picked up her CD, listened to it, and I do like it! Liking this sort of thing, and going ahead and actually buying a pop CD is a little out of character for me. I have a lot of guilty pleasures when it comes to today’s pop, but I wouldn’t actually buy most of it. Lily Allen has a unique³ sound about her, and I dig it.

The two songs she performed on SNL that hooked me in were Smile and LDN. Have a listen, and if you like, click the image in this post, and buy it!

I went to an Alice in Chains concert last night, and it was FANTASTIC! I was never able to go see those guys live before Layne died. So, even though it wasn’t really Alice in Chains, it was unbelievable nonetheless. A guy named William DuVall filled in for vocal duties, and did an amazing job. I had never heard of him before, but to be able to sing well enough to fill Layne’s shoes says something. He hit every note perfectly. Well done Billy! Can I call you that?

One thing I can’t STAND at concerts, is whistling. I’m talking about ear piercing, head jarring whistling. The kind that requires one to stick two fingers in their mouth to ensure maximum aural destruction by achieving ear tearing frequencies and volumes. Fine, do it a couple times if you want. But is it really necessary for someone to whistle like that every 2 minutes for an hour and a half? I’m thinkin’.... no. It’s not really necessary.
